MFS - The energy-efficient sludge mixer
Sludge mixers of the MFS type are the time-tested technology for mixing sludges in anaerobic digesters. Our mixers have been constantly improved for more than 60 years so that they represent state-of-the-art technology.
More than 750 sewage treatment plants (among them ultra-large installations) around the world are equipped with our sludge mixers, all in all about 1250, using our experience and know-how - a figure which speaks for itself!
Operating principle
The MFS sludge mixer is vertically installed in the digester. It is designed for reversible operation forcing the sludge in either direction through the central draft tube. This feature eliminates any trouble in the two critical digester areas and also ensures that the biogas yield is optimal.
In upward operation, from bottom to top, the rotating splash disc destroys the supernatant sludge layer and counteracts the formation of foam.
In downward operation, from top to bottom, the propeller forces coarse floating residue as well as foams through the draft tube to the digester bottom. Settled sludge at the bottom is agitated and returned to the active process area.
Operational flexibility
Every installation and every sludge behaves differently. MFS sludge mixers enable you to respond accordingly. We know from our customers' experience that changes in sludge amount, sludge composition or foam formation are dealt with flexibly and successfully.
We provide you with the know-how, safety and reliability required when it comes to equipping digesters with internal circulation.
Bio-Gas Production
If the digester is operated without a mixer system the result will be a suboptimal yield of biogas production.
The value is 1m³ raw sludge with a biogas production of approx. 0.7 cubic meters in 24 hours.
If the digester is operated with a sludge mixer type MFS the biogas production will increase 30% to approx. 1m ³ of biogas in 24 hours.
Of course these values depend on the consistence of the raw sludge, it is the average of our field analyses.
